Sorry, Spirits

I have to apologise. I was searching and watching Youtube the night before the horrific earthquarke struck Christchurch and one of the videos made a lasting impression on me. It was an old catchy song by a not very well-known South African group, Four Jacks and a Jill. It was a 1960s hit which I often heard and loved when one of my attractive sisters played it over and over again in our shop. She was eventually won over by this relatively unknown boy and married him. There had been so many other reputable suitors she rejected despite their many gifts to me of postage stamps, comics and other stuff I collected!





Well, I was torn between putting up this video and the John Malott commentery which I felt was important to clarify the issues in Malaysia. On the other hand, the song, "Mr Nico" surprisingly had scenes of building destruction from beginning to ending. I love old buildings with their history and I was disturbed to watch it. Besides, I didn't wish to give my Kiwi host the impression that I were an anti-progressive activist! Having considered this, I therefore decided to post it the next day ... little did I know that on February 22nd-a day before my birthday-disaster struck and I would painfully witnessed not only sad deaths but painful scenes of historical buildings in ruins ... and the collapsing scenes of tall concrete buildings -- in contrast to what this video shows! What difference would it make if I had posted the somewhat sentimental video? I don't think it could be a forewarning of destruction and death ... Noone will turn back the clock and stop building taller and taller iconic buildings!





On a side note, I am thankful to God, dear spirits, that I changed my mind about driving to Christchurch to celebrate my birthday there before I depart from New Zealand. I had planned it weeks ago and even obtained marvelous detailed maps and brochures from the nearby NZ Automobile Association.



By the way, I've made my small contribution at a supermarket and I hope you will do so too wherever you are.

Wise Hotel Tips

I think I'll throw in another naughty piece for this holiday season as so many visitors are traveling and putting up in hotels.

This extract is from Miri's great Community Net's blog. I guess it'll be a great idea to borrow something from my many buddies there. It's titled Ghost Protection in Hotel.

Just two days ago I was escorting an old buddy and her daughter with all their luggage to a hotel room. They'll be holed up there for a number of weeks... so this piece today will be sound advice for them! Haha... D & S ...Beware!

In every single hotel, there shall be at least a permanent room which should be left vacant at all times. No matter how full the hotel is, they are not to sell that room(s) to any guest. It is said that special room is 'reserved' for those 'special visitors'.

So, if you plan to stay in some hotel, always book in advance. Try to avoid a walk-in. If the receptionist tells you there's no more room available, do not insist on one anymore or try to bribe him or her to give you a room. If you do that, most of the time the room you have will be that 'special room'.

Sometimes, those 'special visitors' might go to other rooms also, so here's some tips on how to protect yourself:

- Before entering your room, always knock on the door first, even if you know the room is vacant.

- After you enter the room, if you feel very cold suddenly and have 'chicken spores', leave the room quietly and immediately and go to the receptionist to request for a change of room. Most of the time the receptionist will understand what's happening.

- After you enter the room, immediately switch on all of the lights, and draw the curtains to let the sunlight in.

- Before you go to bed, arrange your shoes so that one of them is upside down. Some say this is representing yin & yang to protect you while you're asleep.

- Always leave at least a lamp on while you're sleeping, preferably the toilet lamp.

- If you're staying alone and they have given you a twin bed, do not sleep with the other bed vacant; try to put your things like luggage on the other bed before you sleep.

p/s I was told that there was a recent exorcism performed at a well-known hotel not
too long ago and I know it's true ...

Unsolved Malaysian Mystery: A Spirit

Jumping catfish! I was looking at some uploaded old 1963 black/white pics of a funeral of a well-loved popular European in the oldest graveyard in Northern Sarawak when I was astonished to find a face observing the procession below in the pic...

Look at the face in the circled top right hand side... Could it be his spirit?

Happy Halloween, Folks!

The witches, ghouls, spirits and monsters are on the prowl tonight in the States and Canada... The kids are all asking, "Trick or treat?".... Yeah, it's Halloween in the West ... A swell time for all, even for college students in the many costume parties on campus....Just wonderful to let all your hair down ....

Yeah, great memories I treasure of those young days when we scared each other and laughed till tears rolled down our cheeks with all the many pranks we played on each other!

Here's my contribution to this awesome annual ritual that would surely bewilder many foreigners who ever live in those fun-loving countries! These are the most creepy, hair-raising tips that will give you goose-bumps, even as an adult!

Pope John Paul's Spirit?

This fiery figure is being hailed as Pope John Paul II making an appearance beyond the grave.

The image, said by believers to show the Holy Father with his right hand raised in blessing, was spotted during a ceremony in Poland to mark the second anniversary of his death.

Details appeared on the Vatican News Service, a TV station in Rome which specialises in religious news broadcasts.

Sarawak's and Sabah's Special Rights

I fully agree with the following letter by Patriotic Anak Sarawak which appeared in Malayskini yesterday, rebutting some points made by a certain Uncle Yapp in his letter.

We didn’t beg to enter Federation of Malaya

I refer to the letter Why Malaysia is 50 years old and not 44. I do not agree. Remember this, we were invited to join the Federation of Malaya. We didn't beg to be part of the federation; as a matter of fact many then were - and even now - are not happy with being dragged into the federation. We could easily have survived on our own like in the case of Brunei or Singapore. We had all the natural resources to keep us going. We have a hardworking population made up of various ethnic groups and races all ready to work hand-in-hand without having to prove who is superior or inferior. In short, we are one peaceful, harmonious and tolerant population. As Uncle Yap is aware, we didn't 'enter' the federation. In fact, we came in together with Sabah to form and give birth to Malaysia. So is it so wrong for the peoples of these two states to point out that Malaysia is 44 years old and not 50? Sarawakians are very unhappy with the goings-on in the Peninsula where the politicians there appear to have nothing else on their minds except to harp on racial and political superiority. Sarawakians dread the day when Umno, MCA or even the toothless MIC set foot on our shores. Sarawak cannot afford to have disunity as a result of the infiltration of these extremist and racially-biased politicians. Which explains the reason why we should fight to keep the 20-point Agreement initiated by our forefathers - to protect future generations of Sarawakians and Sabahans.

Miri's Most Haunted Tree

For some time now, Mirians have been talking about a certain part of the city along the Miri-Pujut highway at which witnesses claimed to have seen some sort of supernatural activities... It goes back to the time when three brothers lost their lives tragically, ramming their expensive vehicle into a tree close to the Pujut Maybank across the road. Here is the Borneo Post pic dated 20/1/1997 of the appeasement ceremony conducted by their family members. Remember, don't ever pick up three persons around this place...they may not be whom you think they are....
