Hi, It's Sweet Rhonda!

There were many, many cold frosty days and nights out in the prairies, far from the beautiful cities of Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta, Canada.... far from the maddening crowd... but if you were in isolated cold (The wind, the wind... the bone-chilling wind...) Camrose, Rose City of Canada... living on campus at Camrose Lutheran College nee Augustana University College, life was a dream come true... and there were marvelous friendly Christian folks of both sexes who kept our spirits alive and wielded off loneliness...

Then there was this sweet, beautiful gal, Rhonda Griebrecht from British Columbia. Everyone was a friend and she had this distinctive wide radiating smile that would dazzle and brighten many of us. Even a Borneon crocodile would hastily retreat into the swamps if she had just smiled!

It was a real pleasure to sit on the opposite side of her at a dining table in the cafeteria at times and just chit chat...

Once Again, A Man Wins!

Yeah, that great beautiful city of Edmonton, home of the best ice-hockey team, The exciting Edmonton Oilers and hollywood-bound best ice-hockey champion, starry-eyed Wayne Gretzky, in Alberta, Canada, the place that I truly once loved, is a growing liberal place and the red necks are often said to be in hell, which is Calgary, home of the exciting ice-hockey team, the mighty Calgary Flames!

But when it comes to local elections...with many women entering the local election fray, a man would always rise to the occasion to grab the mayorship!

This funny cartoon was found in a local community paper sometime in the 1980s.

The ballyhoo over a female leader reminds me of the recent Sarawak state elections whereby a defending elected female candidate was unfortunately defeated, possibly partly due to some rather sexist attacks.

Controversial Pic!

The pic on the right appeared on the front page of one of Edmonton's most widely read respectable newspapers, The Edmonton Journal on a dull Thursday, December 7, 1989.

It was about a crazy gunman at the University of Montreal in Montreal, Quebec who killed 14 female students, allegedly because he hated feminists.

Then all hell broke lose when it hit the streets of Alberta and soon the paper was bombarded with heavy criticisms of being in poor taste and tactless in showing the pic with the injured female student's tit exposed for all to see.

Perhaps it was much ado about nothing as nude dancing is legal in many of the strip joints in Alberta.
