'Spider-man's' Creator's Romantic Side

Did you know that the amazing creator of "Spider-man' and other entertaining super-heroes, Stan Lee, has a romantic side to him? He has written love stories, supposedly based on those narrated to him by others and gotten some illustrators to illustrate comics on various love themes.

The plots may be somewhat corny but nevertheless they provide an entertaining read for all star-struck lovers. With their fanciful suspense-ridden plots and totally unpredictable conclusions that could turn out most heart-wrenching, the reader could only while away hours and hours, engrossed in his or her own delightful romantic fantasy world!

Here's the opening page in his 'Love Stories' comic series...Do click to enlarge the image for a clearer view.Yes, there're more of this type in my library.

The Vietnam War in Comics (1)

CLICK PIC TO ENLARGE

"Seen from the beginning there is nothing mysterious of America's lost third of the century in Vietnam," so begins the splendid narration in Michael Maclear's non-fiction book, Vietnam: The Ten Thousand Day War.

Yes, here's a special issue of a Vietnam comic that I treasure. Its artwork is by none other than the great American artist, Stan Lee of the Spiderman cartoon fame. From combat to love, Lee has extensively dabbled in these topics and others like the famous superheroes ones.

In the days ahead, I will pay tribute to this individual who fires up the imaginations of millions in the world today with his works of fantasy and in the grim Vietnam tragedy, a dose of reality.

Here's the World's First Comic!

Something historical for all the comic addicts out there in cyberspace, especially the outspoken Von Feldspar of Canada...

This is an extract from TIME Magazine, 11/1/93.

Man, imagine those barely civilized folks amusing themselves by reading this and other comics... and they were ready to take lives-kill and be killed in their survival of the fittest barbaric lifestyles!

Reality of War in Comic Form...

Here's the opening front page of the Vietnam War comic I was talking about sometime ago. It seems to be the second published one in a series. Mercifully, Stan Lee, famous creator of Spiderman, has provided conclusions to all the stories in it!

In the days ahead, I'll provide some glimpses of this unusually rare comic or magazine as the artist calls it.

It offers a fascinating account of the war conditions and situations that the GIs found themselves in an Asian country, Vietnam in the '60s.

Hi, Stan, you genius, when is the Iraq War version coming out???

A Common Hobby?

Okay, okay-it's that cheeky devil, Archie! Don't the girls in Archie's life and female readers as well just love this lovable cute rascal?

It's a hobby of mine, collecting comics just like this particular copy displayed in all its glory here.

It's quite an extensive collection, collected through the many years - war comics like the Commando series, War Picture Library series, Pocket War Library series; cowboy comics like Combat Picture Library and sci-fi Space Adventures series....

Then there are all the other Marvel comics with titles such as Superman, Aquaman, Batman and so forth. In addition, there are others like Disney comics featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, et al and even Classics Illustrated-comics based on famous novels by writers such as Charles Dickens and Samuel L. Clemens; supernatural ones like Tales of the Unknown and Suspense... Chinese comics featuring funny guy Lau Fu Tze and even Bruce Lee, and many more.

Really quite a lot in my private library, if you include spy thrillers and Vietnam war ones as well.

Yup! I've got Superman's special wedding edition in mint condition, courtesy of an old Canadian girlfriend!

Any comic freaks out there like me? Wanna trade? Let's say we'll forever be young with comics around us. Besides, they would be interesting heirlooms to leave behind for all our great grandkids!

Now I wonder if I could make a little fortune by selling a few of the rare ones on e-bay though ....
